PURPOSE: A breakage prevention control system and method for a safety step of a railway vehicle are provided to ensure the safety of passengers by securing a safety distance between a safety step and a platform. CONSTITUTION: A breakage prevention control system for a safety step of a railway vehicle comprises a safety step device and a vehicle control device(200). The safety step device comprises a safety step, an overload detection part(130) which detects the overload of a motor(120) when the safety step advances and contacts a platform, a position detection part(140) which detects the position of the safety step, and a controller(150) which moves back the safety step to a set safety position using the position information provided from the position detection part. The vehicle control device transmits a step control signal for to the safety step device.
