Catalyst composition comprises at least one organometallic complex of titanium, where the organometallic complex contains at least one alkoxy ligand functionalized by a heteroatom such as nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, arsenic sulfur and antimony or by an aromatic group, and has a structure of formula ([Ti(OR) n(Y1) ( 4 - n )]). Y1 : a hydrocarbyl having 1-30C or a group comprising halides, R1O-alkoxy, R1 2N- amido and R1COO-carboxylates; R1 : hydrocarbyl, preferably non-functionalized, comprising 1-30C; n : 1-4; ligand-OR : an organic compound such as family of alkoxy ligands of formula (O-(CR 1> 0>R 1> 1>) n1-X-L); functional group L : a group comprising heteroatom such as nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur, arsenic and antimony or an aromatic group; X : hydrocarbon group (CR 7>R 8>), an oxygen atom or a group containing a nitrogen atom -NR 9>; R 7>, R 8>, R 9>, R 1> 0>, R 1> 1> : H or a (non)cyclical hydrocarbon chain, comprising 1-30C and optionally comprising a heteroatom; and n1 : 0-30. An independent claim is included for a process for selective dimerization of ethylene into butene-1 comprising implementing the catalyst composition.
