The invention relates to a process for altering the properties of faujasite Y-type zeolites used as a catalyst base for fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) used in the oil refining industry, in which heavy fractions are converted into lighter fractions of higher commercial value. According to the invention, a single step is used to produce: a) an altered faujasite Y-type zeolite having a lower sodium content than that of the original faujasite Y-type zeolite, by up to 75%; and b) a mesoporous material associated with the altered faujasite Y-type zeolite, with an average pore size of between 2 and 100 nm, in which the materials produced have a bimodal or multimodal pore distribution and the proportion of altered faujasite Y-type zeolite, in relation to the mesoporous material associated with said zeolite, is adjusted by means of the process operation conditions. |
