NEGATIVE ELECTRODE ACTIVE MATERIAL AND LITHIUM BATTERY USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A negative electrode material and a lithium battery using the same provided to improve a lifetime and a capacity thereof by using a negative electrode material in which a volume expansion is suppressed. CONSTITUTION: A lithium battery sing a negative electrode material comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode material. The negative electrode material comprises a middle sized porous silica and a metal. The metal is one or more metals selected from transition metals, 13 family metals, 14 family metals and 15 family metals which can form alloy with a lithium contained within mesopores of the middle sized porous silica. The content of the metal is 0.5-100 parts by weight relative to the 100 parts by weight middle sized porous silica. The specific surface area of the negative electrode material is 150-1000m^/g. The total volume of pores of the negative electrode material is 0.15-1.0ml/g. The separator is insulted between the positive electrode and the negative electrode.
