PURPOSE: An adaptive cruise control method is provided to improve fuel efficiency by changing the target rate of an operator according to the slope gradient of a slop way. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle measures a target rate which an operator sets(100). Wheel acceleration is calculated(102). The vehicle performs adaptive cruise control. A vehicle acceleration are calculated according to detected wheel acceleration(104). The vehicle calculates the slope gradient of a slop way where the vehicle runs(108). The target rate is changed according to the slope gradient of the slop way(110).
