[Class 40 (v)] In a transponder of the type in which the transmitting valve is pulsed over a cathode follower, as described in Specification 598,398, the cathode of the transmitting valve is biassed positive with respect to the control grid to avoid operation by driving potentials of less than a predetermined amplitude caused by spurious signals. The cathode current of the transmitter valve and the remaining valves, other than the cathode follower, is passed through a resistor, across which is developed the bias voltage, the grid of the transmitter valve being connected over a pulse widening circuit to the cathode of the cathode follower.
