PURPOSE: A magnetic recording medium and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to realize a high density recording and storing medium of 1T bit/in2. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording medium(100) includes a substrate(103) and a magnetic body layer(102). The substrate includes an under layer(101). The magnetic layer is formed on the underlying layer. The magnetic layer includes Fe, Pt, Zr and Cu. The magnetic layer includes FePt. The Zr and Cu are contained into FePt. The Zr promotes phase change to L10 type FCT crystal structure according to the heat treatment while restricting the growth of a crystal gain.
