PURPOSE: A position detecting device of a change lever and a shift control device of an auto transmission are provided to detect the position of the select direction of a change lever and the shift direction using a hall device without the determination of a shift pattern in a change lever unit. CONSTITUTION: A position detecting device of a change lever and a shift control device(1) of an auto transmission comprises a hall device(2) and an electric control unit(4). The hall device outputs the electric select position signal according to the position of the select direction of a change lever and the electrical shift position signal according to the position of the shift direction of a change lever. The electric control unit determines the position of the shift direction of the select direction and shift direction of the change lever based on the electric select position signal and the electric shift position signal outputted from the hall device. The electronic control unit has a memory(6) and a judgment unit(5). The judgment unit determines the position of the change lever comparing with the positive position of the select direction and the shift direction in which the change lever locates and the fixed shift direction in the map and select direction bases on the position of the change lever outputted from the hall device.
