When a telecommunications connection is established over a packet switched network (4) between a network access point (1) and a network-based service provisioning system (2), the network access point retrieves a geographical identity associated with the physical network termination (3) to which that termination is connected, and stores that identity for use by applications running on computer equipment (15, 16, 17) co-operating with the network access point. This allows location -based services to be provided to the user without input of an address. A particular application provides for a call centre (9) to identify the physical location of a voice call originating from an Internet-protocol telephone (15) or through a femtocell (17). |
