The present invention relates to a reference electrode assembly that is used as a reference electrode in a measurement system for detecting a target substance in a sample by an electrochemical method. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the reference electrode assembly comprises a porous transition metal electrode layer and a channel disposed over the porous transition metal electrode layer, wherein the channel is formed by a polyelectrolyte. More preferably, the channel is a polyelectrolyte structure formed by combining a cationic polyelectrolyte and an anionic polyelectrolyte. The reference electrode assembly can be used as a reference electrode in a variety of applications. In particular, the present invention relates to a pH meter for detecting the hydrogen ion concentration of a sample. According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pH meter comprises a reference electrode, an indicator electrode, and a detector for detecting an electric signal between the reference electrode and the indicator electrode, wherein the reference electrode is formed of a solid-phase reference electrode assembly of the invention. |
