A system and method for auto-scaling information distribution in a network (20) having distributed processing elements (28). The method includes receiving at a processing platform (30) a first request for information from a first client device (24a); determining a source of information (22a) that stores the information; dynamically selecting from the distributed processing elements (28) at least one processing element (28a) to establish a communication path (32, 34) between the first client device (24a) and the source of information (22a) such that the at least one processing element (28a) satisfy a first requirement list, wherein the first requirement list includes at least one of a location of the at least one processing element relative to the first client device, network requirements, and processing capabilities of the at least one processing element; if the processing platform (30) does not select the at least one processing element (28a) to satisfy the first requirement list, creating the at least one processing element; and transferring the information to the first client device (24a).
