<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a center pillar assembly of a three-door vehicle which is not only reduced in the cost of manufacturing but also is improved in the strength. <P>SOLUTION: The assembly includes: a side outer panel where a quarter glass flange is formed; a center pillar outer reinforcing member having a "convex" cross-sectional form in an upper part and a lower part thereof, and reinforcing the side outer panel; a gusset for connecting the upper part of the center pillar outer reinforcing member and the quarter glass flange; and a side inner panel disposed inside the side outer panel and bonded to the center pillar outer reinforcing member and the gusset. Since the upper part and the lower part of the center pillar outer reinforcing member have a "convex" cross-sectional form, not only the strength of the pillar is increased, resulting in superior lateral colliding performance, but also the cost of manufacturing is reduced because a reinforcing member is not required in a conventional "neck" part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
