HONEYCOMB BODY AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight and strong honeycomb body having a low pressure loss and to provide a method of producing the honeycomb body.

SOLUTION: The honeycomb body 1 is made by coating cell walls 11 in a honeycomb body base material 10 comprising the cell walls 11 which are made of a cordierite porous body and are arranged in a polygonal grid shape and many cells 12 divided by the cell walls 11 with a coat material 15 comprising primarily alumina. The method of producing the honeycomb body is also provided. A porosity of the honeycomb body base material 10 is 45% or more and less than 70% and a thickness of the cell wall 11 is 90 μm or less. A coarse micro-pore amount being the total amount of volume of micro-pores having a micro-pore size of 40 μm or more among micro-pores per unit weight of the honeycomb body 1 is 0.02 cm3/g or less. In manufacturing the honeycomb body, a coat material slurry having a contact angle of 50° or less with respect to the honeycomb body base material 10, is used.
