<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a picture-in-picture display. <P>SOLUTION: Information required for a picture-in-picture display is recorded in pip_metadata. pip_horizontal_position shows an X coordinate of the left upper corner of a sub-display screen on which a secondary video is displayed on the frame of a primary video, and pip_vertical_position shows the Y coordinate of the left upper corner of the sub-display screen on which the secondary video is displayed on the frame of the primary video. On pip_scale, information indicating the size of the sub-display screen on which the secondary video is displayed is recorded, for instance, the ratio of the size of the secondary video with respect to the primary video, the reduction rate of the secondary video with respect to the size of an original image, and the information indicating the number of vertical and horizontal pixels constituting the sub-display screen are recorded.
