<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device, a character input method and a character input program which are capable of promptly starting a character input using a touch panel and quickly inputting the character. <P>SOLUTION: A mobile phone terminal 1 (a character input device) comprises a touch panel 2 which detects a contact action made onto a surface thereof and a main control section 10. The main control section 10 performs character recognition processing based on a trajectory formed by connecting each position of a contact detected by the touch panel 2 from a commencement of a detection of the contact by the touch panel 2 until a completion of the detection.
