<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine 70, which is improved to protect a rotation angle detecting means 151 mounted on a gear case 140 by focusing attention on the presence of a sound insulating cover 153. <P>SOLUTION: The engine 70 includes a gear case 140 for housing a gear train 143, 145, 147, 149, mounted on one side face of a cylinder block 75 in a direction of a clank shaft 74. The engine also includes a rotation angel detecting means 151 detecting a rotation angle of a rotation gear 145 constituting the gear train 143, 145, 147, 149. A sound insulating cover 153 for suppressing noise is mounted on an outer face of the gear case 140 (141). The sound insulating cover 153 has a bulging portion 156 bulging in a direction parting from the gear case 140 (141).
