<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass optical element capable of restraining the occurrence of a surface flaw and a latent flaw, by shortening polishing time. <P>SOLUTION: By applying a first polishing process of polishing a surface of a lens base body by using a first polishing liquid of mixing a cerium oxide abrasive grain with water and a second polishing process of polishing a processing object surface of the lens base body polished in the first polishing process by using a second polishing liquid being a nonaqueous dispersion medium, a hydration layer formed in the first polishing process can be removed in the second polishing process.
