<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which prevents plastic deformation of a columnar spacer and whose opening ratio does not decrease. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 100 includes an array substrate 10, a counter substrate 20 which is disposed so as to be opposite to the array substrate 10 and which has liquid crystal 7 sealed between the array substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20, a plurality of columnar spacers 5 which are formed on a surface side of the counter substrate 20 that is opposite to the array substrate 10 and which hold a gap between the array substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20, and a basis 55 including a line pattern 56 and a space pattern 57, whose upper surface constantly abuts a tip surface of the columnar spacer 5.
