The secondary storage device 100 identifies a format of the storage area and obtains free space data, which represents a free space of the storage area, from a specified portion in the storage area corresponding to the identified format. The secondary storage device 100 then displays a representation of the free space of the storage area on the display, based on the obtained free space data.
