<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable shift register type memory device and data storage method. <P>SOLUTION: According to one aspect, there is provided a shift register comprising a plurality of rotors arranged along one direction in which the characteristic direction is rotatable around the rotation axis extending in the one direction. The plurality of rotors are provided with a uniaxial anisotropy and are grouped into a plurality of pairs for every two mutually adjacent rotors. A first force which urges the characteristic directions to be antiparallel, acts on the two rotors belonging to the same pair.
