<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the failure determination of a particulate filter without measuring the precise amount of accumulation of the PM of the particulate filter. <P>SOLUTION: This failure detecting device 1 includes particulate sensors 41 and 42 on the upstream side and downstream side of a particulate filter (DPF 30). Both the sensors can specify the amount of particulates passing themselves. The output ratio (PM discharge ratio) of both the particulate sensors 41 and 42 is computed, and when focucing attention on fluctuation of this ratio, it is found that the failed particulate filter indicates a change in which the PM discharge ratio has the minimum value after the PM discharge ratio has once dropped, and rises again, and the failure of the particulate filter is determined based on this. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
