Disclosed are a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that: are able to increase the electrochemical stability of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution even when a solvent having low viscosity and a narrow electrochemical window is used; suppress side reactions of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution during charging/discharging, and thus are able to suppress a decrease in battery properties; and have excellent storage characteristics in high-temperature environments. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which is provided with a cathode containing a cathode active material, an anode containing an anode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution that dissolves a solute in a non-aqueous solvent, is characterized by a benzotrifluoride and diisocyanate compound being included in the non-aqueous electrolyte solution, and by the amount of the contained benzotrifluoride being at least 5 vol% of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution excluding the solute.
