The method involves monitoring an engine (2) of a vehicle (10), in order to detect a stop of the engine. The stop of the engine is detected, if a driving speed of the engine lies below a predetermined driving speed. The results of a parking space measurement of a parking assistance system (1) are automatically deleted, if the stop of engine is detected. An independent claim is also included for a device for actuating a parking assistance system for a vehicle.
