<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptive quantization technique capable of preventing propagation within a screen of an error generated in intra-prediction in a method called intra-prediction coding. <P>SOLUTION: An image coding apparatus codes an input image using intra-prediction coding. The image coding apparatus comprises a saturation calculation section 130 for calculating saturation in a block to be coded; a DC calculation section 131 for calculating a DC value of a difference block calculated by performing a difference calculation between the block to be coded and a prediction block corresponding to the block to be coded; and a quantization parameter determination section 103 for determining a quantization parameter of a target block from the block saturation, the DC value of the difference block, and the picture quantization parameter determined in advance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
