An enzyme having an activity of transferring a methyl group into lignan (a lignan methylation activity) (e.g., a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2 or a variant thereof); a gene encoding the enzyme (e.g., a polynucleotide comprising the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or a variant thereof); a metyod for producing methylated lignan using the gene; and others.
