To provide a light source which can emit light having a high luminance and a high luminous flux, a light-emitting device disclosed herein includes: a laser light source 101 for emitting a laser beam; and a light-emitting section 106 having an irradiation surface which the laser beam emitted by the laser light source 101 irradiates, the light-emitting section emitting light in response to the irradiation of the irradiation surface by the laser beam, the laser beam having, on the irradiation surface of the light-emitting section 106, a power density which falls within a range from 0.1 W/mm2 to 100 W/mm2.
