Provided is a hybrid vehicle that consumes degraded fuel efficiently and promptly with minimal effect on the driving performance. The hybrid vehicle is provided with: an engine (1); a power generator (2) that is driven by the engine (1); a battery (4) that can be charged by a power source or a power-generating device (20) provided outside the vehicle and by the power generator (2); an electric motor (12) that receives electric power from the battery (4); and a vehicle control device (5) that controls the aforementioned elements. The vehicle control device (5) includes: a degradation detection means that detects or estimates the degree of degradation of fuel to be used by the engine (1); a remaining-battery-power detection means that detects the remaining battery power (SOC); and a target-value setting means that sets a target value (TS) for the remaining battery power (SOC) to be achieved by on-board charging by the power generator (2). When the fuel is in a non-degraded condition where the degree of degradation is below a predetermined value, the target-value setting means sets the target value (TS) to a normal value (TS1). When the fuel is in a degraded condition where the degree of degradation is equal to or above the predetermined value, the target-value setting means changes the target value (TS) to a degraded-condition value (TS2) which is higher than the normal value (TS1) in order to increase the operating time and the operating frequency of the engine. |
