PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent dichroic dye making a high fluorescent intensity compatible with a fluorescent dichroic ratio, and having good solubility in a host liquid crystal; to provide a liquid crystal composition containing the dye, and having a high fluorescent emission intensity and a high contrast ratio; and to provide a liquid crystal element using the liquid crystal composition.

SOLUTION: The fluorescent dichroic dye includes a partial structure represented by general formula [I] (wherein, X represents CY2or N; and Y1and Y2each independently represent H or an optional substituent).
