[Class 115] In a boat-lowering gear for use with davits of the gravity type having a davit carriage 2 which runs on a sloping track 4, the gear is so arranged that when the boat is being hoisted or lowered the tackle between the davit (or its carriage) and a fixed point is " static," i.e. loaded, but the sheaves and ropes stationary. The lead 1 passes over guide sheaves 5, 6, 7 and 8, round a sheave of the floating block 10, thence round block 13 and the other sheave of block 10, round a guide sheave 9 behind sheave 8 and thence round sheaves 17 and 19 to a shackle 21 which forms an anchorage at the inboard end of the track 4. When the boat is being hoisted or lowered to or from the davit head, the lead between the sheave 9 and the sheave 17 and between the sheaves 17 and 19 is " static," i.e. loaded, but the sheaves 17 and 19 and this portion of the lead are stationary. |
