Reverse link busy bits are independently generated by each base station (102, 104, 106) and indicative of whether the transmitting base station (102, 104, 106) has reached a reserve link capacity limit. A method of communication between a remote station (122) and the base stations (102, 104, 106) is provided. The method comprise steps of receiving busy bits from the base stations (102, 104, 106); transmitting a reverse link signal when all of the busy bits indicate reverse link capacity; and inhibiting transmission of the reverse link signal when any of the busy bits indicates that a base station (102, 104, 106) has reached its reverse link capacity. |
