PURPOSE: A navigation device and method are provided to reduce fuel consumption effectively by preventing sudden acceleration or deceleration. CONSTITUTION: A navigation device comprises a location information extracting unit which receives information about vehicle location, a vehicle speed calculating unit(120) which calculates the current speed of a vehicle using the received vehicle location information, a storage unit(130) which stores one or more among map information, vehicle route information, information about points required to change speed on a road included in the vehicle route, and information about safety speed at the speed change points, a guide information generating unit(140) which calculates a speed change starting point using the information and generates guide information about needs to change speed in a section including the speed change starting point, and an output unit(150) which outputs the generated speed change guide information.
