A hyperspectral or multi-spectral imaging system (1), comprising: a deformable lens (2) comprising dispersive material; means for deforming the lens (2) to vary the focal length of the deformable lens (2); and one or more processors arranged to discriminate between different frequencies of sensed electromagnetic radiation by virtue of differing focusing, arising from the dispersion of the deformable lens, of the respective different electromagnetic frequencies. The imaging system (1) may further comprise a sensor (4) arranged to provide a fixed image plane.
