Special visual effects are achieved. An optical element (1) includes a light reflecting interface and a light transmitting interface. The light reflecting interface has a first relief structure, which includes a plurality of two-dimensionally arranged first recessed sections or protruding sections, and the first relief structure outputs first diffracted light when irradiated with light. The light transmitting interface is arranged ahead of the light reflecting interface, with a reflectance smaller than that of the first interface, and has a second relief structure, which includes a plurality of two-dimensionally arranged recessed sections or protruding sections. The second relief structure outputs second diffracted light when irradiated with the light.
