<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing alcohol that has excellent amount of production of a target compound per a unit catalyst amount and can produce the target compound with excellent yields in a method of dimerizing primary alcohol and producing alcohol with an extended carbon chain. <P>SOLUTION: By the method of producing alcohol, the primary alcohol is dimerized under the presence of an iridium catalyst and a palladium catalyst and under the presence of a base to obtain alcohol with an extended carbon chain.
