<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary sheet metal which enables the reliable ascension of a butt of a functional element and can also prevent the unexpected descent of a driving butt into a bed of the functional element. <P>SOLUTION: An auxiliary sheet metal for a functional element 10 of a knitting machine enables the ascension of the driving butt 16 of the functional element 10, which is descended into a bed of the functional element, beyond the bed of the functional element by an auxiliary sheet metal 11. A bottom 115 of the functional element for the functional element 10 can be formed to have at least two different heights by means of the auxiliary sheet metal 11.
