<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable computer in which an auxiliary battery pack can be safely removed by a simple structure in a power-on state. <P>SOLUTION: A bay for storing an auxiliary battery pack is formed in a system casing 13, and an eject switch for operating the bay is formed on the bottom face. It is necessary to incline the system casing from a loading surface 12 in order to remove the auxiliary battery pack when power is supplied from the auxiliary battery pack. Acceleration sensors 16a and 16b recognize that a user has started an operation to remove the auxiliary battery pack by detecting the inclination of the system casing, and switches a power source to a main battery pack before the auxiliary battery pack is actually removed.
