<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact automatic document feeding apparatus capable of reading both sides by being provided with a route for inverting front and rear surfaces of a document, and including a constitution having suppressed manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: This ADF (automatic document feeding apparatus) includes an introduction route, a first inverting route, a second inverting route, and a discharge route for both sides. The introduction route guides the document from the left side of a reading position to the right side so that a first surface of the fed document can be read. The first inverting route which is connected to the introduction route inverts the document and guides the document from the right side of the reading position to the left side so that a second surface of the document whose image information on the first surface is read can be read. The discharge route for both sides which is connected to the first inverting route and the second inverting route guides the document so that the document whose image information on the second surface is read can be discharged from the furthermore right side than the reading position.
