LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an optical component such as a diffusion plate from being yellowed due to ultraviolet light from a fluorescent tube and the diffusion plate from being deformed by heat from the fluorescent tube in a liquid crystal display including a direct backlight which uses fluorescent tubes as a light source.

SOLUTION: On the rear face of a liquid crystal display panel 5, there is arranged a direct backlight which uses fluorescent tubes 80 as a light source. A diffusion plate 20 is mounted on a side mold 70 holding the fluorescent tubes 80 and a set of optical sheets 200 is mounted on the diffusion plate 20. A PMMA plate 10 is mounted on a step section 71 formed in the side mold 70. The PMMA plate 10 prevents ultraviolet light from the fluorescent tubes 80 from affecting the diffusion plate 20 and the set of optical sheets 200. The PMMA plate 10 and a space formed between the PMMA plate 10 and the diffusion plate 20 prevent the diffusion plate 20 from being deformed by heat from the fluorescent tubes 80.
