<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a convenience from the perspective of use forms in a projection type video display device whose projection optical unit is portable. <P>SOLUTION: A projection type video display device is provided with a main body 1 whose projection optical unit for generating and projecting a display image is a portable unit, and a holder 2 which is formed to hold the main body 1 in a specified place and configured to project the display image from the main body 1 thus held onto a screen 51. The main body 1 has a built-in secondary battery as a power source and the holder 2 is configured to make the secondary battery contained in the main body 1 rechargeable when the main body 1 is held.
