<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for embedding an electronic watermark in a digital host content. <P>SOLUTION: A digital host content is received, e.g., at a receiver or another device incorporating a receiver. One or more embedding technologies are selected. Embedding opportunities are identified in the host content. A subset of the identified embedding opportunities is selected. One or a plurality of selected embedding technologies are utilized to embed a plurality of watermarks in the digital host content in accordance with the selected subset of the embedding opportunities. The subset of embedding opportunities is selected to provide a desired tradeoff between levels of robustness, security, and transparency of the watermark.
