<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sodium, by which refined sodium is produced from impurity-containing sodium by electrolytic refining, and which is excellent in operability, durability of electrolyte, and safety. <P>SOLUTION: Electrolysis is carried out by using impurity-containing sodium 180 as an anode and ionic liquid 170 composed of a mixture of NaTFSI and nonmetallic salt of TFSI anion as an electrolyte. The nonmetallic salt of TFSI anion is preferably tetraethylammonium TFSI or tetrabutylammonium TFSI. In the anode, only the sodium contained in the impurity-containing sodium is turned to sodium ion and eluted into the electrolyte and other impurities remain in the impurity-containing sodium. Besides, in a cathode, only sodium (sodium ion) contained in the electrolyte is deposited on the surface of the cathode.
