<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shelving system that is strong enough to support a large load and is light weight enough so that the shelving system is easy to adjust and reconfigure with a minimum number of steps required by the user. <P>SOLUTION: The shelving system 10 includes: a plurality of vertical posts 12 formed by pultrusion of resins containing reinforcing fiber and horizontal traverses 14. The horizontal traverses 14 are coupled to the vertical posts 12 by means of a bifurcated collar 50 that are placed on each vertical post 12 and a traverse end piece. Each half of the bifurcated collar 50 comprises a wedge shaped design when a load is placed on the traverse, forces are applied to the bifurcated collar 50 that squeezes each half of the bifurcated collar together more tightly around the vertical post 12. The traverses 14 may be coupled to one or both sides of the vertical post 12 to allow the shelving system 10 to be extended in any lateral direction. Furthermore, the shelving system 10 may also be extended in a perpendicular or other angular direction by a wedge shaped corner connector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
