<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine for preventing and treating an inflammatory bowel disease, for example, an ulcerative colitis, and/or a clone disease. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention discloses use of mammal beta-defensin, for example, human beta-defensin and/or mouse beta-defensin. An example of the beta-defensin includes human beta-defensin 1 (hBD1), human beta-defensin 2 (hBD2), human beta-defensin 3 (hBD3), human beta-defensin 4 (hBD2), and mouse beta-defensin 3 (mBD3).
