<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a useful organic compound by decomposing lignin under aerobic conditions. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a hydroxy group-containing aromatic compound is provided, being characterized in comprising the step of decomposing lignin by culturing genus Paracoccus bacteria in a medium containing the lignin under aerobic conditions to obtain the objective compound. The hydroxy group-containing aromatic compound is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of salicylic acid, vanillin, 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, syringic acid, syringaldehyde, methyl 3,4-dimethoxy-α-hydroxybenzeneacetate, and salts thereof; more preferably, the hydroxy group-containing aromatic compound is at least one selected from the group consisting of salicylic acid, vanillin, 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, and salts thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
