<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce shock from stopping a car when an aftershock occurs after an earthquake has happened in an elevator driven at variable speeds. <P>SOLUTION: The earthquake restoration diagnostic operating device of the elevator includes: a speed limit instruction means for outputting instructions for limiting traveling speed of the car 1 to predetermined speed slower than the maximum speed that can be obtained at a normal time, for example, a regular value (rated value) after an earthquake restoration diagnostic operation by a diagnostic operation control execution means provided in a control circuit 7 of a control panel 5 is finished; and a speed limit control execution means for controlling to limit the traveling speed of the car 1 to the normal value according to the instructions output from the speed limit instruction means.
