<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermosetting resin for optical use by which coloring with an organic peroxide polymerization initiator is suppressed, and the coefficient of linear expansion is low, and to further provide an optical element comprising the thermosetting resin for the optical use obtained by the method for production. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided the method for producing the thermosetting resin for the optical use including: a first step of affording a mixture containing an acrylic or a methacrylic monomer, a polymerization initiator having vinyl, and the organic peroxide polymerization initiator; and a second step of heating the mixture and polymerizing the acrylic or methacrylic monomer.
