<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To update map data without having an influence on an operation speed of a navigation function and with minimum loss of time that navigation function becomes unusable. <P>SOLUTION: A map data processing device comprises: map data storage means 101; update data input means 102 to input update data from a storage medium; update data recording means 3201 to record the update data; and a dynamic updating means 104 to update a map in response to the update data after recording the update data on the update data recording means 3201. The update data input means 102 can regenerate both the update data and other data so that data for other purpose than updating map data can be regenerated during a functional operation of navigation not for recording update data.
