<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily maintain the accuracy of changing a valve operational mode without increasing the frequency of the maintenance, concerning a variable valve system for changing the valve operational mode of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: Each of inlet cams 21, 22 is integrally movable in the axial direction of a camshaft 11, and provided with a timing cam 26 to be integrally rotated with the camshaft 11, and a mechanical interlocking mechanism 20A for converting the drive force received from the timing cam 26 into the movement in the axial direction of the inlet cams 21, 22. Arm members 31, 32 of the interlocking mechanism 20A are engaged with each other, so that the power can be transmitted from one of them to the other.
