The invention relates to a cash box (10) which comprises an invalidating unit (14) for invalidating banknotes held in the cash box (10) and at least one manipulation sensor (16) for detecting attempts to manipulate the cash box (10). The cash box (10) also has a control unit (18) for controlling the invalidating unit (14) and a stock determination unit (20) for determining the stock of banknotes in the cash box (10). The stock determination unit (20) transmits the actual stock of the cash box (10) to the control unit (18) which compares said actual stock with a preset limit value. If the actual stock is greater than the limit value, the control unit (18) sets an activated mode in which the control unit (18) triggers the invalidating unit (14) if the manipulation sensor (16) has detected a manipulation attempt. In contrast, if the actual stock is less than or equal to the limit value, the control unit sets a deactivated mode in which the control unit (18) does not trigger the invalidating unit (14) if the manipulation sensor (16) has detected a manipulation attempt. |
