HYDROGEN GENERATING MATERIAL, METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME, METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN, AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generating material and the like which are stable in the atmosphere.

SOLUTION: The hydrogen generating material contains Mg nanoparticles the surfaces of which are slowly oxidized, and generates hydrogen when the slowly oxidized Mg nanoparticles are reacted with water. In the hydrogen generating material, the specific surface area of the Mg nanoparticles is less than 70 m2/g but more than 3 m2/g. The hydrogen generating material additionally contains a powder of a metal that has a standard electrode potential larger than that of Mg in the positive direction. A method for producing the hydrogen generating material includes at least following steps (A) and (B). The step (A) includes arc-melting a Mg metal ingot in an atmosphere of hydrogen, nitrogen, Ar or a mixed gas thereof to obtain Mg nanoparticles. The step (B) includes slowly oxidizing the surfaces of the Mg nanoparticles.
